FAQs

Is buying beef from a local farm cheaper than buying it by the cut at the grocery store?

The simple answer is YES. Why? It is all based on averages. At the grocery store you can expect to pay $15 or more per pound for steak. Roast and burger could easily cost $6 per pound. On average, you can expect all your beef from a local farm to average around $6 per pound. Don’t let the upfront cost scare you, you will save money in the long run and enjoy some high quality beef while you’re at it!

What is cost?

Our current pricing is $2.50/lb hanging weight + processing fees.

Butcher cost will depend on cuts (the more cuts, the higher the cost) but estimate $1,200 in butcher fees for whole steer.

What is hanging weight?

The hanging weight is the weight of the carcass following initial slaughter and processing, which includes removing hide and innards. Please note that hanging weights will vary for every animal depending on their size.

Once we receive hanging weights from the butcher, we will email you invoice for freezer beef. Please pay promptly.

What types of payments do you accept?

We accept cash, checks and Venmo (Brooke_stevensfarms).

Please make checks payable to Kyle Stevens.
Checks can be delivered to 12681 Jamison Rd Leesburg, OH 45135

How much meat will I get?

This ultimately depends on your cut list and the size of the animal. Naturally, every animal will dress out differently. When you order your beef in bulk, you will be able to talk to the butcher and go over all of your options. Popular cuts of beef include ground beef, steaks, ribs, brisket, roasts, stew meat, cubed steak and organs

1/4 beef: $750 including butcher fees, 160 pounds of meat*

1/2 beef: $1,500 including butcher fees, 320 pounds of meat*

Whole beef: $3,250 including butcher processing fees, 648 pounds of meat*

*ESTIMATES ONLY. Based off 1440 pound finished steer

Where are your animals processed?

All cattle are currently processed by J&L Farm Butcher in Medway, Ohio. They are fully inspected by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. When your meat is ready to cut, the butcher will contact you to go over the specifics of your preferred cut list. You will arrange pick up with butcher once your meat is ready. Processing fees will be paid directly to butcher at time of pick up. Beef will be vacuum sealed and frozen.

Do I need a Deep Freeze?

  • A full size chest freezer is needed for whole beef

  • For half a beef, a stand alone, upright freezer will work, however, space will be tight.

  • A quarter beef will not fit in a side by side fridge/freezer

How are cattle raised?

All freezer beef are grass-fed, grain finished. All of our animals are hormone and antibiotic free. They are fed a custom ration that is hand mixed from corn we have grown and harvested. They are fed choice hay, also grown, baled and stored here at the farm!
